Blackberry Oat Flakes Yoghurt Parfait packed with fresh blackberries, fruit yogurt, and low-fat oatmeal. It is a healthful protein-rich breakfast.

The cafeteria of the company where I work offers various types of oat flakes yoghurt cups. Such yoghurt cups are one of the typical German breakfasts. Some supermarkets also sell ready-made yoghurt cups. On the weekends, I start to assemble my version of yogurt parfaits, and the one with blackberry is one of my favourite parfaits. The creamy yoghurt layered with gluten-free oat flakes and blackberries becomes a beautiful combination. It even attracts my kid, who never likes fresh blackberries.

What are the main ingredients?

Blackberry Oat Flakess Yoghurt Parfait has three main ingredients, yoghurt, fruit, and oatmeal.

Yoghurt

The central part of this healthy breakfast comes from two types of creamy yoghurt, plain yoghurt, and blackberry yoghurts. The blackberry yoghurt is the lowest layer that compromises the blackberry toppings. The plain yoghurt is the layer below the fruit toppings. The two-tone effect with my yoghurt has just won over everyone in my family.

Oat Flakes

I eat oat flakes either uncooked as in muesli or cooked with water or milk to make porridge. Oat Flakes are an essential ingredient in granola breakfast cereals. I use the uncooked version for this recipe and lay between the two types of yoghurt and the fruit.

Since the oat flakes have no taste, I can adjust the sweetness level to everyone’s preference by adding honey syrup to the oat flakes layers.

Blackberry

The sweet plump blackberries in the parfaits are my choice of textural contrast. If you are food photography, you would love to have them on top of parfaits.

Look for colour ranging from deep black to deep blue/purple because they are the sweetest berries. They should be plump and firm to the touch, not wrinkled or dried out.

Complete list of ingredients

  • 200 ml blackberry yoghurt
  • 200 ml plain yoghurt
  • 10 fresh blackberries
  • 2 teaspoons of honey syrup
  • 4 tablespoons of oatmeal

How to make Blackberry Oat Flakes Yoghurt Parfait?

It could not be easier to make these fruit and yoghurt parfaits. Simply place ingredients layer by layer. The lowest layer is the blackberry yoghurt, followed by the oat flakes layer, the plain yoghurt, and one more oat flakes layer. Before topping with fresh blackberries, I add some honey syrup to adjust the sweetness.

It is so easy to make parfaits the night before and store them in the fridge. The oat flakes are soft anyway, so do not worry that they turn into a sloppy status.

Since the recipe is so easy to make, it also becomes a quick solution for a dessert. I reduce the amount of yoghurt and oat flakes to fit the dessert course.

Tips for the recipe

If the fresh blackberries are not available, you can use the defrosted frozen berries. But then you might need to sweeten them by adding honey syrup as they are, in general, quite sour.

  • Or use the blackberry jams instead of the fresh blackberries.
  • The oat flakes give the parfait a smooth feeling. If you prefer a textual contrast, use granola instead.
  • And, if you use the granola, then please add the granola to the yoghurt before serving. If you add the granola the night before and store the parfaits in the fridge, it will become a sloppy mess.
